Hi Everyone,
It turns out I took far too many pictures over reading week but I have
finally organized and narrowed them down into some blog contenders. The
first leg of my reading week adventure was 3 nights in Amsterdam. After a
6 hour bus ride from Paris, we spent the days walking and enjoying the
canals as well as viewing some historical sights. Take a look:
This is the main square and cathedral:
The view outside of our hostel:
Typical canal views with Dutch architecture:
The small building that is 5 in from the left is Anne Franks' Haus. This is where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis for 2 years. We did a tour of the building and a lot of it has been left the way it would have been.
Dutch ceramics that were everywhere:
Always lots of neat architecture:
some art nouveau:

The Rijksmuseum:
Rembrandt's the Night Watch:

Amsterdam is known for it's various vending machines. In these ones you could get warm meals!
A gothic cathedral squished between big name shopping stores:
These are some of the signs that would have appeared on the velouted tops of the homes and stores. They were to indicate who lived there and what their business was. For example, the top right one is a tooth, showing where the dentist would have worked.
and more:
The world's skinniest house! Yes, someone does live in this 1.5 metre wide home:
