Around Paris: Pont Alexandre, Champs Elysees

Hi Everyone,

It has been a pretty busy last few days but I felt like a new post was in order. On Monday we started our classes which run Monday to Thursday with about 3 hours of class time each day. The professors seem pretty interesting and I think the classes will be as well. I am particularly excited for my film studies class, where we will study the history of film in France and discuss the philosophy and meaning behind various films. I have to say that since I have been working for the past 8 months I am not particularly interested in getting down to work, but I am trying to remind myself that these classes will probably be more fun than most.

A few days ago some friends and I ventured to the last day of the Christmas Market on the Champs-Elysees. This was the most amazing Christmas Market I have ever seen in my life! The whole avenue was covered in vendors and the city really went all out with the decorations. One thing I have learned is that Paris really goes all out with the aesthetics...Not only was there a skating rink set up but you could skate "through the continents of the world", passing by various large displays of moving animals and recreated climates...It was amazing! They also put up a massive ferris wheel offering views of the whole city...You can see my photos of our ferris wheel ride below!

As you may see in some of my photos, the weather in Paris has been pretty dreary. Apparently there has not been an ounce of sunshine since last November! As well, there tends to be a general misty rain that falls constantly. This hasn't stopped me from exploring but I am looking forward to getting away for some weekends elsewhere. Some other students here and I have been talking about traveling in the next few weeks so we are hoping to find some inexpensive flights. Keep your fingers crossed for me as it seems nothing is inexpensive in Europe!

Aurevoir for now!
